RE: SPADS

As of 0000 hrs. on Sunday 09-11-03 the terminology of the word 'SPAD' will no longer be in use. As a result of recent misunderstandings of this term which have come to light as a result of surveys conducted during SMS training and through incident investigations, the acronym (Signal Passed At Danger) will be replaced with a new acronym 'CAM' (ie. Critical Awareness Misjudgement).

Thus from the date listed above all unauthorised movements past signals displaying a stop indication are to be referred to as CAM's instead of SPAD's.

Your co-operation is sought in the acceptance of this new terminology to ensure a smooth transition from one phrase to another.

MANAGER, SAFEWORKING ALTERATIONS
