in August, 1993 I floated the very first proposal (as a
Usenet-style RFC, meaning Request For Comment)
for an Australian railway modelling
newsgroup which would augment the highly US-centric 'rec.models.railroad' newsgroup. At that
time, I suggested a name of 'aus.models.railway', however this
quickly changed to the current name of 'aus.rail.models' before the initial
CFV (Call For Votes) was circulated in the
then-very-new 'aus.rail' newsgroup (I'd played
the pivotal role in creating 'aus.rail' a couple of years
earlier).
As you could imagine, many
train crewing staff have a talent for things artistic. One of facets
is captured in my collection of locomotive
logbook art...
Another curio is a
collection of images penned by anonymous CityRail staffer who has
taken a humourous view on CityRail driver
identification!
Since
I mentioned Railway Digest earlier, it's pertinent to mention a
very excellent publication called Motive Power which is published by
Stuart Ellis with help from many prominent and not-so-prominent
railway staff and enthusiasts around Australia.
